Oak trees are certainly my favourite native tree. Although the oak is not exclusive to our country, I do strongly associate them with Britain. After all, our empire was once built from oak! I spent one night camping up on Dartmoor in mid September of 2008 which proved fruitless initially. The sunset was a let down and the sunrise shot which I had gone for was also abandoned due to a change in conditions from the forecasted broken cloud. I was left to make the most of the fierce morning sunshine and a very light fog drifting in the valley below. I decided to walk down to a nearby wood to see if there were any sunrays to be had and sure enough, after a bit of searching, I found this wonderful oak tree. Unusually the position of the camera was entirely determined by the conditions and the tree, and I spent a while making small adjustments to get the strongest rays. The final image has just the impact I was looking to capture.
