Galactic Drakensberg

Drakensberg Escarpment, South Africa

In late summer the galaxy is clearly visible to the naked eye from the Drakensberg. If you are fortunate enough to have clouds below, blocking out the lights of the settlements at the foot of the Escarpment, then you can have an outstanding view. In this case I could hardly have chosen a better location to have optimum conditions for astrophotography.
