West Dartmoor, Devon
2013 was the best year I can remember for bluebells. The unseasonably cold spring brought about a particularly late bloom. The cold seemed to benefit the flowers; I have never seen them quite so colourful or abundant. The late flowering also meant that the oaks were in leaf at the same time, which again I have never seen. I visited numerous Dartmoor woods in search for these tiny blue flowers, finding them at almost every turn, but some woods had better carpets than others. I came back to this area a total of 6 times in 2 weeks, every time finding something slightly different.
