Winter in the NW

19 Jan 2019 - 24 Jan 2019

What to Expect

This workshop by invite only, sorry!

In this winter workshop we will be hiking mountains before sunrise, spending the daylight hours high up and then descending in the dark. We'll be staying in comfortable self catered accomodation and enjoying a mix of home cooked food and pub meals out at the nearby Torridon. In the evenings we'll cover some image processing to get the most out of the shots we capture on the trip.

We'll be based at Torridon Village itself within easy reach of the surrounding mountains. Peaks we might tackle include Beinn Eighe, Beinn A Chearcaill, Beinn Liath Mor, Beinn Dearg and Beinn Na Eaglaise. There are also plenty of lower walks we can attempt if the weather goes against us!

ITINERARY

Saturday: Meet at our accomodation in Torridon. Together we should be able to arrange transport from Inverness Airport/Train station for those not driving.

Sunday to Wednesday: Hiking! We'll do a mixture of peaks and lower walks depending on the conditions. If its clear at night we can stay out for some astro work.

Thursday: Workshop ends. As with the pickup we will try to make arrangements for people to get to Inverness for planes and trains.

TUITION

I will be on hand at all times to help you with your images should you wish. The level of independence and tuition is entirely flexible, depending on individual interests and needs. You certainly won’t be marshalled around in minibuses!

FITNESS AND EXPERIENCE

You do not need prior mountain experience for this trip however you must be mountain fit! We could be doing as much as 1000m of altitude change in a day which is hard work even with a day pack. If you have any concerns about your fitness then please contact me!

IF IT SNOWS

If there are serious winter conditions then I will need to hire a Winter Mountain Leader to lead the group - my qualifications do not extend to full blown winter conditions. There will be a £35 ish supplement per day on top of the fee (or whatever the fee is divided by 6!)

CLOTHING AND EQUIPMENT

You will require full winter clothing including a winter down jacket, full waterproofs, winter gloves, spare dry gloves, gaiters and boots. In the event of snow you will also need an ice-axe and crampons with suitable boots! (B2). Hiking poles and TWO headtorches are also essential.

ADDITIONAL EXPENSES

Please budget for hiring of a Winter Mountain Leader as mentioned above.

PRICE AND BOOKING

This workshop is priced at £660 with a £260 deposit required to book your place. The remaining £400 is due 2 months before the workshop starts. There is a £60 supplement for single occupancy.
