Scotland - Highland Summit Camps

29 May 2018 - 03 Jun 2018  |  £690

What to Expect

In this adventurous workshop we will be aiming to summit camp on some of Scotland’s finest peaks. We will focus on the Northwest Highlands and in particular the region stretching from Applecross to Assynt with our itinerary entirely flexible to make the most of the weather. This area has some of the oldest rock in the world, the landscape is ancient, rugged and beautiful.

During this 6-day adventure we will aim to go up 3 (or more) mountains camping on the summit or just below to ensure we have sensational views for sunrise and sunset. In between we will be visiting some of my favourite lower level locations, sometimes involving longer walks to more remote spots. If the weather turns we will be checking into B&B’s or bunkhouses. Last year we were incredibly lucky with the weather and camped on mountain tops above the clouds!

Tuition

I will be on hand at all times to help you with your images should you wish. With a small group size (maximum 5) there will be plenty of opportunity for 1-to-1 time. The level of independence and tuition is entirely flexible, depending on individual interests and needs. You certainly won’t be marshalled around in minibuses!

Fitness And Experience

You do not need prior mountain experience for this trip however you must be mountain fit! You will need to be able to carry an 15-18kg backpack up a 1000m mountain, possibly starting at sea level. You do not need to be superhuman to do this, but you do need to be fit. If you have any concerns about your fitness then please contact me!

Equipment

I can provide high end lightweight camping equipment perfectly suited for the trip. This includes Terra Nova Ultra Quasar tents, Rab Neutrino 400 sleeping bags and NeoAir Xtherm sleeping mats. If however you would prefer to use your own sleeping kit, or bring your own tent then you are welcome to. Aside from camping equipment which is provided you will need suitable outdoor clothing, walking boots a rucksack and a number of other items. I will be providing a full kit list once the trip is booked.

Additional Expenses

The trip does not include flights or accommodation should the weather force us inside. You should budget £120 for up to 3 nights in a B&B or bunkhouse (its unlikely it will come to that). You should provide your own food but from time to time we may go out for a pub meal or cooked breakfast. You will also require insurance.
