Itinerary

Saturday - meet at 2pm at the Tafarn-y-Garreg pub. We'll have a quick drink and say hello, explain the plan and then head out. We'll hike up to Fan Foel to camp (6km, 600m ascent, 2 1/2 hours) stopping in between to cover a variety of topics. Dinner and evening session, sunset.

Sunday - Sunrise from the top. Morning session. Hike back for a 12 noon finish.

Fitness and Experience

No mountain experience is necessary. If you are walking fit and healthy you should be able to complete this hike. The routes we are taking are entirely non-technical. You will need to carry an 18kg rucksack including your camera kit, food, and the camping gear you will be using.

Equipment

Some of you may already have all the kit you need. If you would like to rent a tent (shared), sleeping matt, sleeping bag, pillow and stove then you can do so for £20. The equipment I can provide is the very best available - you'll be using nearly £1000 worth of equipment! I have 2 backpacks I can loan for people who have next to no kit!

Tuition

We can cover any topics you wish but the general concept is to build peoples confidence in the outdoors. Longer workshops or 1-to-1s are better in terms of photography tuition.

Transport

Not provided - please find your own way to the Tafarn-y-Garreg pub.

Weather

If the weather is totally unsuitable for camping (very windy or very wet) we will cancel with full refunds. But if its just normal bad weather we'll go for it anyway. This is exactly what happened two years ago and we had a great time out in the hills. For those looking for an introduction to camping, heading out in bad weather in the safety of a group is a great way to build confidence.

Payment

This workshop is priced at £90. Please note that payment confirms your place and payments are not refundable (though you may find a replacement).
