Stac Pollaidh, Assynt, Scotland
Stac Pollaidh, also known as Stac Polly (which is its pronunciation) is a unique mountain in the Assynt region of north west Scotland. This is one of the most spectacular images I have ever has the pleasure of capturing. The view, location and light came together perfectly. Stac Pollaidh reminded me of a Dartmoor Tor gone mad, larger and more impressive in every way. Although the stacks of the mountain resemble the granite tors of Dartmoor they are in fact sedimentary. Even at the top of Stac Pollaidh you can make out rounded pebbles in the rock, signs that this mountain was once a river bed. The realisation gives you an immediate idea of just how ancient the place is. The view from near the summit of Stac Pollaidh is as impressive as any of the peaks in the area. In this image you can see Cul Mor to the right with the sun cresting over it. To the left, Suilven, and below endless hills, lochs and lochans.
