The Mnweni Pinnacles

Drakensberg, South Africa

One of the most transient and inspiring scenes I have photographed in the Drakensberg occurred just a few minutes before sunset. We had spet several hours trapped in the mist, but as sunset approached the cloud level suddenly dropped and I started running rapidly downhill to get in place to photograph this scene. The somewhat mystical impression of the clouds is caused by motion blur due to the long exposure I chose.
