On my second evening I had made plans to summit Kaldaklofsfjoll and camp at the top. Google earth showed that this peak would give the best view over Altavatn at 100m higher than the more common viewpoint over this scene. In the evening dark clouds warned of the impending wind and rain that was about to hit my mountaintop campsite. The reflection off Alftavatn to the clearer sky above it makes it appear radiant against the surrounding landscape. Afterwards I enjoyed a short moment of relief that I had finally photographed the scene that I had been looking forward to for almost 18 months. Not so long afterwards I was nestled in my sleeping bag as rain lashed the tent.
