North from Cleft Peak
Drakensberg Escarpment, South Africa
The Drakensberg inversions often burn off in the mornings, but sometimes persist throughout the day. It was late morning by the time we reached this viewpoint, just short of the summit of Cleft peak. The view is spectacular at any time of day, but with the clouds swirling below in a strong wind, the scene was awe-inspiring. In the middle is Pyramid and Column with the Cathedral Ridge in the background. One of the butresses of Cleft peak is on the left.
