Galaxy over Assynt

Scotland’s night sky is simply incredible. Down in Devon we get a good view of the Milky Way but the skies in Scotland are noticeably darker and perfect for astrophotography. This is the view from next to my tent on Stac Pollaidh. Cul Mor is on the right and Suilven in the centre. This was one of those ‘no sleep because of photography’ nights where I went to bed a little later than planned at 10.30 set my alarm for 1am, got up and took photos for an hour and then couldn’t fall asleep again for another hour because of sheer excitement. Getting up again at 4am was particularly difficult!
