Wild Camping Photography Workshop

The ultimate Dartmoor photography workshop!

For people looking for slightly more adventurous photography tuition I offer overnight camping workshops. Wild Camping on Dartmoor is a fantastic experience and allows you to be in some quite remote locations in time for sunrise. All of my favourite Dartmoor experiences have been during wild camps and whilst you might miss a comfy bed, the potential for stunning conditions in wild locations is hard to beat.

Camping photography workshops can run from 3pm to late afternoon on the following day or for the whole weekend. A single overnight workshop will include 16 hours of tuition, roughly 7 hours on the first day and 9 on the second. If you want to make a massive leap in you photography I am happy to camp the entire weekend. We would meet on Friday afternoon and depart late on Sunday. A 3 day workshop will involve approximately 24 hours of tuition on Dartmoor.

Why a Camping Photography Workshop on Dartmoor?

There are lots of reasons why I think this may be both the best way to learn and the most fun!

  • Wild camping allows us to photograph more remote areas of Dartmoor as sunrise and sunset
  • This is particular true when it comes to being on location for a summer sunrise at 5am!
  • We can try astrophotography if the conditions are suitable
  • You will have plenty of time not only to learn the photography techniques I teach, but also practice them thoroughly.
  • We can camp in absolutely beautiful locations
  • Camping on Dartmoor will give you a greater sense of attachment to nature
  • It’s a great adventure
  • All the camping equipment you need is provided
  • You can boast to friends and family when you get home!
  • The additional cost is peanuts

Practical Matters

ALL camping equipment is provided (unless you want to use your own). Evening and morning meals will be provided. You must be moderately fit and capable of carrying a mid weight rucksack.

Please bring:

  • A Digital SLR camera
  • A wide-angle lens
  • A tripod
  • A telephoto lens (optional)
  • A polariser (recommended)
  • Warm clothes – Dartmoor can be cold even in the summer, no jeans!
  • Waterproof – to keep the wind and rain out
  • Walking boots – only experienced walkers should consider unsupportive footwear
  • Lunches/snacks – sandwiches, nuts, dried fruit, cheese and biscuits, sweets, chocolate etc
  • If you are unhappy drinking water from a stream then also bring water or a way of purifying it!

Since these workshops are weather dependant please try to be flexible to camp either on Friday night or Saturday night (if booking a single overnight camping workshop). If you wish to book a whole weekend photography workshop please contact me to and ask how flexible I am regarding other weekends so that we can hatch a backup plan if need be! Don’t worry though, if the weather is bad we will reschedule, I’m not mad!

If you would like more information on my wild camping photography workshops please get in touch.
