> MOTIVATION

Dartmoor is often desolate, tranquil and beautiful. Taking images that evoke those kinds of emotional responses is the true skill of the photographer and something that continually motivates me. I also like to find natural balance in nature, selecting small parts of a scene allows me to show relationships between parts of the landscape.

> DEDICATION

On of the issues that photographers will always face in the art world is the idea that photography is easy and is therefore less valuable than more classical art forms. In reality a lot more goes into making a landscape image than the pressing of a button. In fact taking the photo is relatively easy, I can show anyone how to meter and press a shutter button. The real difficulty comes not in the act of taking the photo itself, but rather getting into a position to take the shot in the first place. Many of the shots in my gallery are the result of considerable thought and planning, sometimes requiring many visits to the same location to capure it in the right light.

> LOCATION

The more time I spend on Dartmoor, the more I enjoy it. There are numerous locations which I enjoy visiting, sometimes in bad conditions. Dartmoor is at its best in the depths of winter when golden grasses cover the plains. At that time of year there is no place I would rather be than Tavy Cleave, which has almost limitless potential for the photographer. It′s sometimes quite a hard walk, and the weather can change in an instant, but I always come back feeling refreshed.

> INSPIRATION

I am inspired by the work of many photographers, both current and past. I enjoy the work of Marc Adamus for his eye for the epic. On the other end of the scale I get a great amount of satisfaction from David Ward and his subtle portrayals of the details of the British landscape.

> OCCUPATION

I have recently completed a degree in Aerospace Engineering at the University of Bristol and will be going on to work in industry next year. Whilst I will be based in Bristol I will still be returning to Dartmoor on a regular basis.
