On Friday I am off to Iceland for 8 days. I plan to do part or all of Laugavegur (for the second time) to capture some of the scenes I saw last time (or rather didnt see due to bad weather). From there I will probably do Fimmvorduhals. I’ve actually hurt my back a bit so it might be a bit of a struggle with the backpack, but we shall see!

It's these kinds of scenes that have inspired me to go back to Iceland, a barren and spectacular landscape that is hard to put into words.
Anyway the point of the post was to share my kitlist. This is everything I am bringing to Iceland and the weight breakdown for anyone who feels like doing something similar: http://www.alexnail.com/upload/files/alex_nail_kit_list.xls
There are some inclusions from my usual gear. The obvious extra is the 8 days of food. Even with high calorie food I think I still need 1kg per day so this represents a lot of weight and volume in my pack. Another extra is a Kindle because frankly I’m certain that I’ll have periods when I am tent bound on my own. I still have to decide on which books to read! I’m also taking a water pouch for the first time to save on space. I’m also packing Crocs for river crossings, which I used last time.

Thanks for sharing ! Now I can compare to our kitlist
For me the most interesting items are …food !
Enjoy the trip and have only a good light !

Ha yes! I’m afraid the food I am taking is largely uninspired although the idea of having a savoury and sweet trail mix is one that might be new to you. Noodles and couscous for dinner may not be exciting but I am rarely picky when camping!
What lenses do you travel with?
A 17-40 f4L and a 70-200 f4L. With stitching/cropping as necessary that gives you every focal length from 10mm-300mm and apart from the occasional super telephoto shot it should cover every base. Its also nice to simplify lens selection because you don’t spend all your time changes lenses!
That makes sense. Looks like you pack really well!
I’m planning a trip to South Africa and having a very hard time picking what camera equipment to bring. Especially for the wildlife not sure rather to use a 70-200 with 1.4x or spring for a 200-400. It’s hard to narrow down the options to something compact and manageable!
Have a great trip to Iceland, looking forward to your photos!
Can I ask how do you storage the photos when you on the way? Do you have many memory cards or what?
I notice there is only one spare pair of pants – surely hand wash soap too then!
I notice you also have only one body. on such a trip, woudl you not consider taking a spare?
Taking a spare camera body on a 50 mile hike with a backpack already weighing 25kg is out of the question! I’m not saying that my camera couldn’t fail, but it never has and the consequences wouldn’t be devastating, just disappointing! Yes I did bring soap and yes I did wash my underwear!
